Recently, Wix introduced Wix Harmony, a new approach to the website creation experience. In the next few months, Wix Harmony will live side-by-side with the classic Wix Editor as Wix gradually rolls out Wix Harmony. Eventually, Wix Harmony is planned to replace the Wix Editor as the self-creator platform for site creation.

If you are a Wix user or considering building a site on Wix, understanding what Wix Harmony is, how it compares to Wix Studio and Wix Editor and what it means for your existing sites is essential.

What Is Wix Harmony and What Is Its Purpose?

Wix Harmony is a recently launched platform by Wix designed to streamline and simplify the website creation process. Essentially, it leverages AI and employs prompts to assist in website design development.

Unlike previous Wix tools that focused on either drag-and-drop simplicity or advanced design capabilities, Wix Harmony aims to "blend" these approaches.

The purpose of Wix Harmony is to:

  • Simplify website creation by reducing the need to switch between different tools.

  • Enhance design flexibility so users can create unique, professional-looking sites.

  • Improve site performance and management through a more integrated platform.

  • Support future growth by building on a modern, scalable foundation.

What is the Difference Between Wix Studio, Wix Editor and Wix Harmony?

Wix currently offers three main tools for building websites: Wix Studio, Wix Editor and now Wix Harmony. Each serves different purposes and is built for different types of users.

Wix Editor (Will Eventually Be Replaced by Wix Harmony)

  • Target users: Beginners and small business owners who want a simple drag-and-drop interface.

  • Features: Easy-to-use editor with pre-designed templates, basic customisation, and app integrations.

  • Limitations: Less flexibility for advanced design and development; some performance constraints and it is only responsive on desktop and mobile phones.

  • Use case: Ideal for users who want to build a website quickly without technical knowledge.

Wix Studio

  • Target users: Professional designers and agencies who need advanced design and development tools.

  • Features: Full design control, custom code support, collaboration tools and advanced site management.

  • Limitations: Steeper learning curve, more complex interface.

  • Use case: Best for users who want to build highly customised websites with professional-grade features that look great and function well across all screen sizes.

Wix Harmony

  • Target users: Users who want a middle ground between simplicity and advanced design.

  • Features: Combines prompt-based workflow with some drag and drop functionality

  • Limitations: This space is still evolving. Currently there is no ability for custom code, CMS and websites are only responsive on desktops and mobile phones.

  • Use case: Suitable for users who want to get online fast and need a low maintenance design.

What Will Happen to Wix Editor Moving Forward?

In the next few months, Wix Harmony will live side-by-side with the classic Wix Editor as Wix gradually rolls Wix Harmony out. Eventually, Wix Harmony is planned to replace the Wix Editor as the self-creator platform for site creation.

  • Maintenance mode: Wix will continue to support Wix Editor with security updates and bug fixes.

  • Feature development slowdown: New features and major improvements will focus on Wix Harmony and Wix Studio.

  • Encouragement to upgrade: Wix will encourage users to try Wix Harmony for better performance and more design options.

  • Long-term phase-out: Wix have said that the Wix Editor will be phased out as Wix Harmony becomes the primary platform for website creation.

What Does Wix Harmony Mean for Websites Built on Wix Editor?

If you currently have a website built on Wix Editor, you might wonder how Wix Harmony affects your site.

  • No immediate changes: Wix Editor sites will continue to function as usual. Wix is not forcing users to migrate... yet.

  • Optional migration: Wix will provide tools and support for users who want to move their existing sites to Wix Harmony to take advantage of new features and improvements.

  • Improved future updates: Wix Harmony’s AI architecture means sites built on it will likely receive faster updates, better performance and more features over time.

  • Potential limitations: Over time, Wix Editor may receive fewer updates as Wix focuses on Harmony, so new features might only be available on the new platform.

For many users, staying on Wix Editor is fine for now, especially if the site is stable and meets their needs. However, planning a move to Wix Studio or Wix Harmony will likely help future-proof your website.

Key Takeaways for Wix Users

Wix Harmony presents a platform that aims to balance user-friendliness with AI design capabilities, attempting to cater to a diverse range of users. While the existing Wix Editor will remain operational (for now), it is expected to receive fewer new features over time as the focus shifts towards Wix Harmony.

Current users of the Wix Editor can continue to manage their sites as usual, but they may want to explore the benefits of migrating to Wix Harmony to future proof your website or to Wix Studio for a fully responsive, high-performance website experience.
